About the Role

Lead liability-driven investment strategy, portfolio construction, and repositioning for new reinsurance business, ensuring strategies meet business needs, manage risk, and align with asset-liability matching. Act as a senior deal lead for RGA Investments' transactions and support/lead local branch investment activities.

Responsibilities

  • Craft target portfolio strategies for exceptional risk-adjusted returns in partnership with Portfolio Management.
  • Collaborate with the Credit team on execution, analyzing client portfolios and creating target portfolios.
  • Communicate and gain approval for target portfolio strategies from internal stakeholders, including the C-suite.
  • Negotiate investment guidelines and treaty terms with clients to manage asset risk and achieve target returns.
  • Lead asset-side transaction closure, including operational aspects of client portfolio reception.
  • Direct portfolio repositioning from client strategy to RGA's target strategy.
  • Suggest, review, and inform new tools and frameworks to enhance the new business pricing process.
  • Develop relationships and strategic alliances with external contacts (Investment Banks, Asset Managers) and internal cross-functional areas.
  • Manage and train direct reports, including portfolio managers and analysts.
  • Support and lead investment/asset management initiatives for the Japan branch.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) preferred.
  • 15+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Highly advanced investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Demonstrable work experience with CoPilot, Python/R, or similar languages.
  • Highly advanced oral and written communication skills in English and Japanese.
  • Expert understanding of investment/market concepts, particularly in insurance asset management in Japan and APAC regions.
  • Highly advanced knowledge of asset liability management.
  • Expert knowledge of portfolio and fixed income analytics (e.g., sector weightings, portfolio duration, performance attribution, convexity, term structure of interest rates).
  • Ability to set goals and manage multiple tasks, clients, and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and participate in department/team projects.
  • Highly advanced negotiation skills for internal and external discussions.
  • Demonstrable track record of successful investment strategy implementation, especially in insurance or reinsurance (preferred).
  • Demonstrable understanding of JGAAP, US GAAP, and JSTAT (preferred).
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) (preferred).
