About the Role

The Intern, Volunteers will report to the Senior Coordinator, Volunteers, assisting the Volunteers department in preparing for the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. Responsibilities include supporting volunteer recruitment, training, scheduling, mentorship, and development initiatives. This role is ideal for individuals interested in volunteer management, arts administration, or talent acquisition.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and coordinate specialized volunteer role descriptions.
  • Assist with online volunteer application intake during recruitment periods.
  • Prepare for volunteer onboarding to ensure shift readiness.
  • Provide administrative support, including responding to inquiries, taking meeting minutes, and formatting departmental records (Excel, Google Docs, volunteer database).
  • Assist in facilitating volunteer training sessions and communicating program information to diverse audiences.
  • Assist in planning and executing initiatives for volunteer skill development and performance assessment at the 2026 Festival.
  • Provide administrative support for volunteer schedules, shift input, timesheets, and reward voucher requests.
  • Assist with reviewing volunteer training materials.
  • Create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for staff and volunteers.
  • Prepare a detailed post-mortem report.
  • Plan and execute the Volunteer Mentorship Programme event.

Requirements

  • Highly proficient computer skills (Keynote, Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Docs).
  • Excellent communication skills (email, in-person, telephone).
  • Comfortable presenting to and engaging with large groups professionally.
  • Experience with online database management (asset).
  • Interest in candidate recruitment/screening or community outreach (asset).
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, open-concept environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with a positive, problem-solving attitude.
  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Legally able to work in Canada.
  • Visa must allow completion of the full contract for time-limited Visa holders.
