About the Role
Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association is seeking a Personal Support Worker to join its Home Care Team.
Responsibilities
- Provide personal care including bathing, grooming, skin care, dressing, toileting, lifts/transfers, mobility assistance, and mealtime assistance according to individualized client care plans.
- Offer emotional support and encouragement to clients and their families.
- Complete household tasks such as laundry, bed making, vacuuming, cleaning, and dusting as directed by the supervisor.
- Prepare nutritious meals accommodating specific client dietary needs.
Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized Personal Support Worker Program or equivalent (e.g., RPN) or internationally-trained nurse status.
- Valid certification in First Aid, CPR, and Food Handling.
- Experience in housekeeping duties and preparing light meals.
- Sufficient physical ability to assist with client transfers and activities of daily living, including lifting approximately 50 lbs, bending, stretching, standing for extended periods, climbing stairs, reaching, twisting, sitting, walking, and running.
- Ability to speak a second language relevant to the community served (e.g., Cantonese, Mandarin) is an asset.
- Demonstrated compassion, strong interpersonal skills, and sensitivity to the needs of elderly clients or clients with physical/mental challenges.
- Demonstrated good judgment and ability to work independently and cooperatively with the Home Care team.
- Flexible working hours with availability for shifts, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Valid vulnerable sector police record check and medical check completed within one year.
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.
