About the Role
Lead audience growth for Today's Parent across social, newsletters, community, and digital editorial. This hands-on role supports brand development and audience growth through multi-platform content production, including articles, social media, newsletters, and video. Drive social strategy, newsletter development, content output, and content distribution, applying strong editorial judgment and digital experimentation.
Responsibilities
- Support the Editor-in-Chief in managing editorial calendars.
- Write, edit, and produce digital stories, newsletters, and social content.
- Contribute to planning systems and AI workflow development for multi-channel content.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners and contributors.
- Facilitate expert and community outreach, developing expert-led editorial opportunities.
- Foster a culture of experimentation, efficiency, strong editorial judgment, and audience-first digital thinking.
- Support editorial needs and brand alignment across affiliate, branded content, and other SJC brands.
- Lead daily social planning and publishing, focusing on Instagram and TikTok.
- Build and manage social calendars aligned with editorial priorities, seasonal moments, tentpoles, and audience needs.
- Oversee story packaging, including captions, framing, rollout timing, and repeat promotion.
- Collaborate with design, editorial, and audience partners to create platform-appropriate content and campaigns.
- Produce video and audio content and appear on camera.
- Own weekly newsletter production.
- Support the development and redesign of existing newsletters and newsletter journeys.
- Assess and shape opportunities for future newsletter products tied to audience needs or sponsorship.
- Build a strategic community layer around Today’s Parent, including parents, experts, and professionals.
- Manage community-facing channels.
- Build systems for gathering quotes, lived experience, and parent perspectives.
- Organize community-sourced input to support reporting, social engagement, and future editorial franchises.
- Build practical systems to reduce bottlenecks across editing, social, newsletter, and packaging.
- Monitor performance signals and use data to inform packaging, distribution, and editorial decisions.
Requirements
- Journalism or a related degree or experience.
- Five or more years of experience in digital editorial, audience development, and social strategy.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Experience managing freelancers, creators, or junior editorial staff.
- Proven experience strategizing, managing, or growing social channels for a media brand, with strong instincts for Instagram and TikTok.
- Experience building or supporting newsletter strategy, production, or growth.
- Strong understanding of digital packaging, story promotion, and multi-platform publishing.
- Excellent organizational skills and comfort managing multiple projects at once.
- Experience using analytics and performance signals to guide content and packaging decisions.
- Experience using CMS, newsletter, social scheduling, and editorial workflow tools.
- Interest in using AI tools and workflow systems to improve editorial efficiency and output.
- Familiarity with SEO and search-driven content strategy.
- Ability to move easily between strategic thinking and day-to-day execution.
- Enthusiastically stays on top of culture, news, and parenting trends.
- Portfolio of content representative of skillsets.
- Passion for writing and consuming parenting, lifestyle, service, or family-focused content (Nice to Have).
- Experience with community management or audience engagement programs (Nice to Have).
- Experience building repeatable editorial workflows or operating systems (Nice to Have).
- Comfort working across editorial, social, and newsletter products rather than in a single channel silo (Nice to Have).
