About the Role
Seeking a driven and enthusiastic leader in New York to join the global Deal Desk team, a function within the Commercial Legal team. This role manages and leads a team of commercial lawyers negotiating contracts with enterprise customers. The position requires strong commercial contracting expertise, acting as a trusted advisor to senior commercial stakeholders, and building a high-performing team. Candidates must possess a strong drafting and negotiation background in complex, multi-jurisdictional commercial agreements, leveraging legal expertise and communication skills to accelerate Adyen's global growth.
Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and develop commercial lawyers who draft, review, and negotiate complex, multi-jurisdictional commercial agreements for customers.
- Provide strategic, business-oriented legal advice to senior stakeholders across sales, account management, product, and regulatory teams globally.
- Advise on contracting principles, commercial projects, and legal and regulatory compliance within customer contracts.
- Serve as the primary escalation point, guiding strategic, risk-based decisions on complex legal issues and proposing improvements.
- Drive legal automation efforts and process improvements to scale the team and enhance negotiation efficiency.
- Advise on contract interpretation, early-stage customer disputes, and general commercial matters.
- Ensure global consistency and standards across the Deal Desk, creating and advancing global initiatives.
- Draft comprehensive negotiation playbooks and train commercial colleagues on agreement sales.
- Foster strong collaboration and feedback loops within the Legal Team.
- Stay updated on developments in commercial law and relevant industry regulations, advising the business strategically.
Requirements
- 6+ years of legal experience, in-house or at a law firm.
- Strong experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of complex commercial contracts.
- Solid understanding of contract law principles.
- Demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and developing lawyers or other legal professionals.
- Commitment to building diverse teams where every member can thrive.
- Clear and compelling communication skills to ensure understanding of decisions.
- Solid people skills for effective collaboration with diverse internal and external stakeholders and customers.
- Experience educating others on complex ideas, communicating them clearly, and providing additional training.
