About the Role
Schnabel Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Dam Safety Engineer with expertise in dam engineering disciplines and practical experience in design and construction of embankment dams, concrete dams, and hydraulic structures to support our growing business in Texas. This position offers a combination of technical work and management responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering expertise, technical oversight and overall management of dam engineering projects.
- Prepare and review design calculations, engineering reports, technical documents, construction drawings and technical specifications.
- Develop and maintain a group of relationship-oriented clients that provide a continuous source of work for the firm.
- Work with marketing, business development and technical staff to effectively respond to requests for proposals/qualifications.
- Develop cost proposals and assist in negotiation of professional service contracts.
- Perform project management activities for large/complex projects including planning and executing work, managing project budgets and schedule, reviewing and approving invoices, communicating resource needs and reporting backlog.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers.
- Work as a team member within the Austin or Dallas offices and across other Schnabel offices to effectively balance workload among available resources.
- Periodic travel will be required.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or other related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas (preferred) or the ability to seek reciprocity upon employment.
- At least 10 years of relevant technical experience in inspection, evaluation, design and construction of dams and hydraulic structures.
- Proficiency with common computer-aided analyses and modeling programs applicable to dam engineering.
- Experience and knowledge of applicable state and federal dam safety design methodologies, policies and regulations.
- Experience preparing and reviewing construction drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience with construction of earth dams, concrete dams, and hydraulic structures.
- Experience with project management, client management, business development, and staff management.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and well-organized.
- A strong work ethic and the desire to perform professionally at a high level.
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
