About the Role
Schnabel Engineering is seeking an experienced, motivated Mid-Level/Project Dam Safety Engineer with expertise in dam engineering disciplines and practical experience in the design and construction of embankment dams, concrete dams, and hydraulic structures to support our growing team in Austin. This position offers a combination of technical work and management responsibilities, focusing on inspection, evaluation, rehabilitation design, and construction of existing dams and hydraulic structures.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering analysis and design calculations for dam engineering projects, including dam safety inspections, risk assessments, geotechnical investigations, seepage and slope stability analysis, structural analysis and design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, dam upgrading design, bid support, construction contract administration, and resident engineering services.
- Assist with the preparation of engineering reports, technical documents, and technical specifications.
- Prepare construction drawings and other engineering figures with an emphasis on civil and/or structural design.
- Perform visual inspections of dams and hydraulic structures.
- Conduct periodic site visits during construction.
- Assist with training and mentoring of junior engineers.
- Assist with developing cost proposals.
- Perform project management activities, including planning and executing work, managing project budgets and schedules, and reviewing and approving invoices.
- Collaborate as a team member within the Austin office and across other Schnabel offices to effectively balance workload.
- Periodically travel as required.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or other related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas (preferred) or the ability to seek reciprocity upon employment.
- At least 5 years of relevant technical experience in inspection, evaluation, design, and construction of dams and hydraulic structures.
- Proficiency with common computer-aided analyses and modeling programs applicable to dam engineering.
- Experience and knowledge of applicable state and federal dam safety design methodologies, policies, and regulations.
- Proficiency with common drafting and visualization programs such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, ArcMap/GIS, and/or Google Sketch-up.
- Experience preparing construction drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience with construction of earth dams, concrete dams, and hydraulic structures.
- Willingness and ability to periodically perform field work and travel.
- Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outdoors.
- Experience with project management.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
