About the Role
This is a hands-on role for someone comfortable operating independently, requiring broad legal knowledge with deeper expertise in specific areas. The ideal candidate will have a drive to understand the business, resourcefulness, and an instinct to anticipate problems. You will report directly to leadership and serve as the primary legal resource, partnering with the Risk and Compliance team, coordinating with external counsel, and facilitating business operations.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements including SaaS subscription agreements, MSAs, DPAs, vendor agreements, and NDAs
- Develop and maintain contract templates, standard clauses, and fallback positions
- Proactively identify legal, regulatory, contractual, and privacy risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Serve as a key legal partner to the Risk and Compliance team
- Collaborate with Sales, Customer Experience, Product, Engineering, Security, and Finance teams
- Serve as the organization’s designated Privacy Officer or privacy lead
- Coordinate with external legal counsel for specialized or complex matters
- Build and maintain legal documentation, playbooks, and internal guidance
- Support general corporate, compliance, and governance matters, and assist with due diligence and strategic initiatives
Requirements
- 3+ years of legal experience with a strong foundation in commercial contracts, legal risk, and compliance
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to take ownership of problems and find a way forward
- Proactive identification of risks and asking the right questions
- Ability to operate independently and manage competing priorities
- Curiosity about how businesses work
- Clear and practical communication skills
- Humble, eager to learn, and comfortable asking for help
- Pragmatic, business-minded approach to legal risk
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta or willingness to do so
