About the Role

BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting a Design Manager to join the London Construction segment, focusing on managing the design process for technically compliant, cost-efficient, and coordinated design packages during pre-construction and project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Manage the design process to deliver technically compliant, cost-efficient, and coordinated design packages.
• Engage and manage digital and sustainability requirements of the project.
• Liaise with subcontractors, design team members, and external consultants to deliver design information meeting DfE, school requirements, and Building Regulations.
• Manage design information release, production, and approval of technical drawings.
• Chair Client Engagement Meetings (CEM’s) and design workshops.
• Coordinate complex design packages and validate design details.
• Provide expert guidance and technical support to identify and mitigate risks and ensure compliance with statutory, legal, and planning requirements.
• Demonstrate technical competence across Arch, Structures, and MEPH.
• Assist with the selection and scope of suitable subcontractors for Contractor Design Portions and working drawings.
• Ensure the design programme is developed and managed to inform the TIDP and MIDP.
• Provide regular reporting both internally and externally.

Requirements

• Design Management Experience, ideally within DFE/Schools sector.
• A “can-do” and collaborative approach.
• Enthusiastic team player, able to listen, understand, engage, and motivate.
• Confidence to make decisions when required.
• A desire to constantly learn, improve, and share knowledge and experience.
• Understanding of both the design and construction processes within the DfE sector and their interface.
• Understanding of Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM Level 2 requirements.
• Desire to drive improvements and benefits through embracing digital construction.
• Excellent communication skills, both at a personal and formal reporting level.
• Ability to review designs for technical completeness and buildability.
• Ability to develop Consultant scopes of service and the Design Responsibility Matrix.
• Ability to develop VE proposals with the wider team.
• Ability to lead the design programme.
• Understanding of EDMS, particularly ACC/Autodesk Forma.
