About the Role

San Francisco Boys Home is an 8-bed Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) providing a safe, structured, and intensive trauma-informed program for boys ages 13-17 with significant emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs. SFBH is the only STRTP in San Francisco County, serving adjudicated boys through an integrated model that includes clinical services, structured supervision, and skill-building interventions. The residential and clinical staff work as a client-centered and family-focused interdisciplinary team. Staff empower youth to build independence, develop essential life skills, engage with their community, and reconnect with their strengths to support healing, growth, and long-term self-sufficiency. The psychotherapist reports to the clinical supervisor and works with the clinical team to develop the client's course of treatment.

Responsibilities

• Complete intake/placement documentation related to mental health.
• Complete all assessments (mental health, CANS, PSC-35, etc.) and treatment plans.
• Provide individual (1x/wk), family (1x/wk), and group psychotherapy.
• Engage in collateral contacts, Child and Family Team Meetings (CFTs), and crisis intervention & safety support.
• Participate in weekly mandatory individual supervision and group supervision.
• Provide timely documentation of all services & progress notes on internal and 3rd party EHRs (EPIC).
• Maintain a 50% billable caseload.
• Conduct regular case management contacts with attorneys, school liaisons, counselors, rehabilitation specialists, residential staff, psychiatrists, probation officers, and case managers.
• Attend monthly CORE meetings with program supervisors to discuss case progress.
• Participate in quarterly case reviews with clinical supervisor and psychiatrist for CANS updates prior to IPCANS CFTs.
• Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss cases and updates.
• Meet with DSS, SFDPH, or probation officers as needed.
• Consult with placing agencies regarding medication requests, needs, and documentation.
• Attend IEP meetings as necessary.
• Devise a working plan with DSS or probation officer for client transitions.
• Prepare Transition Determination Letters and other relevant documentation for continuity of care.
• Plan follow-up interviews and aftercare.
• Participate in the on-call system for after-hours psychiatric emergency coverage and coordination with the Mobile Crisis Unit.
• Meet with program supervisors to review, revise, or renew existing policy and procedure regarding treatment.
• Provide in-service programs as requested.
• Complete training requirements throughout the year.

Requirements

• Candidates must be licensed or an Associate AMFT/LMFT, ACSW/LCSW, or APCC/LPCC.
• Experience with children and/or families in a residential treatment center or psychiatric hospital preferred.
• Experience with significant family system and individual impairments which manifest in significant emotional and/or behavioral regulation impacting overall well-being and daily functioning.
• Experience in assessment and treatment planning preferred.
• Knowledge of social work practices, marriage and family therapy, & psychology.
• Knowledge of extremely dysfunctional family systems and seriously emotionally disturbed children and the applicable modalities for their treatment in a residential treatment setting.
• Knowledge of clinical assessment and evaluation modalities.
• Knowledge of group therapy modalities.
• Ability to write & communicate clearly.
• Ability to provide accurate, timely documentation.
• Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations.
• Background checks/fingerprints required prior to the first day of employment.
• TB Screening required prior to the first day of employment.
• Occasional bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and walking.
• Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling.
• Occasional repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
• Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
• Driving is required for this position.
• If driving a car is required, incumbent must have a valid California driver's license and be able to provide proof of DMV record and personal insurance (if required).
