About the Role

The Director of Canada Communications leads external communications in Canada, serving as a strategic advisor to the Canada Leadership Team. This role balances high-level strategy with hands-on execution to advance organizational priorities, manage media relations, and drive influence in the Canadian landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communications strategies to support influence and public affairs goals in Canada.
  • Partner with the Managing Director’s Office to drive influence strategy in collaboration with Philanthropy, Community, and Career Pathways departments.
  • Lead the development of key messaging and narratives for external partners and communities.
  • Direct thought leadership planning and implementation for the Managing Director.
  • Coordinate with the Managing Director’s Office to ensure communications alignment with external agencies.
  • Collaborate with specialist teams to deliver content, campaigns, events, and analytics.
  • Track and report on performance metrics to improve communications strategies.
  • Guide the Communications team on the Canadian external landscape and nurture talent.
  • Manage regional media relations to strengthen organizational profile and positioning.
  • Implement issues management plans in partnership with the Head of Communications and the Issues Management Team.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and communications best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience in senior communications roles within Canada.
  • Proven ability to serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders.
  • Experience developing and executing communications strategies in a global organization.
  • Proven track record of crafting strategic communications, public affairs, and policy-related messaging.
  • Experience managing external vendors and agencies.
  • Experience managing a team of communications professionals.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience managing influence strategies across government, public sector, or higher education.
  • Ability to work both strategically and hands-on with a sense of urgency.
  • Public affairs agency experience at a senior level is desired.
  • MA or higher degree in a social science or related field is desired.
  • Functionally bilingual in French and English is desired.
