About the Role

The Speech and Language Pathologist works closely with adults who have various levels of speech, language and communication challenges, assessing clients' needs and developing individual treatment programs to enable each client to improve as much as possible. Service delivery can be provided virtually and face-to-face.

Responsibilities

• Manages a caseload of adults with speech, language, and communication challenges.
• Assesses, diagnoses, and treats swallowing and communication difficulties.
• Develops, implements, and revises treatment programs.
• Advises caregivers on treatment program implementation and trains other professionals.
• Assesses client communication environments.
• Monitors and evaluates client progress.
• Delivers therapy to clients individually or in groups.
• Maintains confidential client case notes and reports.
• Manages caseloads considering priority cases, waiting lists, outcomes, and service user referrals/discharges.
• Collaborates with others to improve service delivery effectiveness.
• Promotes the goals and values of VON and their role as an integrated community care provider.
• Ensures a safe and healthy workplace in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and VON Safety Management System.
• Abides by all VON policies, work practices, and confidentiality regulations.
• Works collaboratively with other staff in a team approach to service delivery.

Requirements

• Master's Degree (or grandfathered prior to 1994 equivalent in Speech-Language pathology).
• Registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an equivalent role.
• Strong computer skills required, including Microsoft Office and speech-language software.
• Proficiency in using technology for documentation of patient outcomes.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to adjust to working in different social and economic environments.
• Ability to respond to changes in patient caseloads and care needs.
• Must have a personal vehicle and possess a current driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
• Current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required.
• Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment.
• Physical activity includes lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs.
• Some tasks require fine hand movements.
