About the Role
The Software Engineer I position works within the Application Development & Support team to provide software programming for new software, production support and maintenance for existing software, as well as ad-hoc support of key departmental business areas, databases, applications, and tools which drive business functions. The Software Engineer I works under close supervision and with detailed instruction from management or lead software engineers.
Responsibilities
- Gains a thorough understanding of functional requirements for new software requests.
- Programs, designs, tests documents, and deploys code to defined requirements.
- Practices good software engineering techniques and standards to reduce coding errors and ensures robustness and efficiency of work products.
- Partners with software team in the development of software engineering processes.
- Works to identify and resolve technical or product problems.
- Participates in software project meetings and provides status reports.
Requirements
- AA and 4+ years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Good knowledge and experience of Python, Java or any other modern object-oriented programming languages.
- Good knowledge and experience of API/Microservices architecture, Object-oriented design and programming.
- Good knowledge and experience of modern web application development frameworks, such as Angular, React, JavaScript, Spring Boot, Sprint MVC, Hibernate, J2EE.
- Good knowledge and experience of modern RDBMS products (Oracle, PostgreSQL etc.) and SQL programming language.
- Good knowledge and experience with Unix/Linux, scripting languages (such as Python, Shell etc.), Kubernetes, DevOps (Jenkins and CI/CD).
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Experience in Agile software development lifecycle.
- Familiar with JIRA/Confluence tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on project teams and/or matrix-managed teams.
- Ability to appropriately schedule and prioritize multiple projects to ensure timely and effective delivery of IT solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with emphasis on translating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
