About the Role
This role involves leading, guiding, and directing dock employees, managing an efficient, clean, and safe LTL operation, and ensuring compliance with company policies and government regulations. The position is accountable for meeting KPIs, utilizing company tools, and managing equipment assignments. Communication with customers and oversight of all dock-related paperwork are also key responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead, guide and direct dock employees
- Set targets, monitor performance, and provide coaching, counseling and development for employees
- Manage an efficient, clean and safe LTL operation
- Oversee dock planning and set up schedules
- Enforce understanding and compliance with all Company policies and procedures, safety rules and government regulations
- Make recommendations in the hiring and termination processes
- Administer and carry out assigned portions of the Service Center Business plan
- Meet all assigned KPIs
- Utilize all Company enhancement tools and processes daily
- Review and revise schedules to increase efficiencies and lower costs
- Manage equipment assignment and movement (trailers and tractors)
- Communicate with customers via phone, fax or email
- Oversee and ensure timely and correct handling of all paperwork associated with the dock
- Perform any and all other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Prior management, dispatch and dock experience required, preferably in LTL trucking industry
- Knowledgeable of local metropolitan area
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to hire, coach, counsel, train, mentor and terminate employees
- Team building and interpersonal skills
- Excellent planning and organization skills
- Good computer skills (AS/400 & MS Office a plus)
- Strong work ethic and good problem solving skills
- Willing to work 50 hours/week average
- Able to work any shift including nights and/or weekends and in any weather condition
- Able to lift approximately 20 lbs., or more if required
- Able to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct
- Able to interact well with others
- Able to work independently, or in a team setting
- Capable of working under tight time constraints in a high volume environment with multiple priorities
- Ability to read, interpret and comply with written information and documents with a high comprehension and concentration level to include the ability to meet deadlines
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests
- Subject to a criminal history background check
