About the Role

An academic sessional makes a substantial contribution to the teaching program, particularly at the undergraduate level. The position requires preparation and coordination of tutorials, consultation with students, assessment marking and attendance at meetings as required by the Course Coordinator/ Discipline Lead. The primary purpose of an academic sessional is to successfully run and manage their assigned tutorials within the discipline area. The School seeks expressions of interest from experienced academics or health promotion workers who have a passion for teaching. Teaching opportunities are available on a sessional basis in Behavioural Science, particularly in social and psychological determinants of health.

Responsibilities

Conduct online discussions and/or face-to-face tutorials in consultation with the Course Coordinator / Discipline Lead.
Consultation with students in relation to readings, weekly topics and assessment.
Marking and providing feedback relating to assessment activities as set out by the Course Coordinator/ Discipline Lead.
Attendance at meetings as required by the Course Coordinator/Discipline Lead.
Comply with policies and procedures in all aspects of their work and conduct.

Requirements

Possession of a relevant master’s degree in the behavioural, social or health sciences or with equivalent professional/industry experience.
A minimum of an undergraduate qualification.
Knowledge and understanding of current scholarship in the relevant discipline.
Demonstrated ability to relate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to deliver quality learning and teaching practices in multiple modes.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to foster high levels of collegiality and ability to empathise with students.
Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.
Ability to deliver quality learning and teaching practices in multiple modes including online delivery.
Proven ability to assess priority of tasks, manage workload and meet deadlines, in a busy environment.
Previous experience working in any education sector is desirable.
