About the Role

The Program Supervisor supports the Director in daily operations, focusing on programming oversight, staff mentoring, and parent support to ensure high standards of care and education aligned with "How Does Learning Happen?".

Responsibilities

  • Support programming environments to be a "Third Teacher".
  • Monitor programs for completion of monthly Assessment for Quality Improvement (A.Q.I) checklists.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify and implement program improvement goals.
  • Support the creation of documentation of children’s learning.
  • Provide in-room modeling to staff by facilitating enhanced program activities.
  • Lead the planning and execution of enhanced programming, events, and trips.
  • Attend and supervise scheduled off-site field trips.
  • Support the planning and updating of program calendars.
  • Ensure programs implement planned activities and learning opportunities.
  • Implement activities from the "How Does Learning Happen?" pedagogical inquiry binder.
  • Monitor program compliance with GACCC’s program planning policy and procedures.
  • Ensure children have completed developmental screenings and assessments.
  • Complete weekly management program checklists.
  • Lead the Health and Safety committee.
  • Lead with the labour management committee.
  • Monitor employees for consistent compliance with GACCC’s Program Statement.
  • Complete monthly staff monitoring observations.
  • Inform the Director of staff performance concerns or policy contraventions.
  • Provide in-program modeling to staff daily.
  • Conduct daily afternoon check-in meetings with Before and After School program staff.
  • Provide monitoring of all programs daily.
  • Provide direction to staff for regulatory compliance.
  • Lead facilitation of team meetings with individual programs.
  • Mentor educators, providing resources for professional growth and program improvements.
  • Participate in candidate interviews and provide feedback.
  • Support new employees in the orientation process.
  • Act as an additional parent contact for daily needs and concerns.
  • Provide the Director with community resources for parents/families.
  • Lead content creation for the center’s Newsletter and update displays.
  • Lead the organization and facilitation of parent engagement activities and events.
  • Lead parent tours for new families.
  • Participate in family meetings.
  • Attend the Annual General Meeting of members.
  • Attend Supervisor Network meetings.
  • Check emergency backpacks and First Aid Kits monthly.
  • Complete monthly program compliance checklists.
  • Support the Director in planning and facilitating afterhours staff meetings.
  • Attend management meetings.
  • Support individual rooms with monthly supply requests.
  • Ensure kitchen, office, and cleaning supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Monitor the supply cupboard cleaning schedule.
  • Print and copy documents needed for rooms.
  • Administer medication to children when the Director is not present.
  • Work on-call one week per month to support staff absences and scheduling.
  • Complete weekly and monthly Program Supervisor checklists for review.
  • Complete monthly progress reports for the Director.
  • Complete 10 hours of professional development annually.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to management regarding staff and families.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a licensed childcare setting.
  • Experience in a lead educator, mentoring or supervisory role is an asset.
  • Current First Aid/CPR (Level C) certification.
  • Current/clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements associated with the Ministry of Education.
  • Knowledge of “How Does Learning Happen?” and other pedagogical frameworks.
  • Knowledge of the Toronto Assessment for Quality Improvement (A.Q.I) guidelines.
  • Proficiency with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides is preferred.
  • Knowledge of child behavior management and guidance strategies and skills.
  • Work flexible hours as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when using any form of public communication or social media.
  • Work independently and, at times, with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Implement positive behaviour management techniques and successfully manage behavioural situations and hostile behaviours in children.
