About the Role
At ABB, we help industries run leaner and cleaner. This position is responsible for preparing service-related quotations for large-scale projects within the Electrification Business Area – Service Division (ELSE) and Distribution Solutions (ELDS). You will prepare internal quotations, perform cost estimations, and define quotation conditions, communicating with sales teams, engineering members, and customers. The team handles approximately 40 projects per month, with a focus on tendering activities accounting for 80% of the annual order intake. The mission is to achieve strong market competitiveness and high profitability by preparing and finalizing bids, quotations, and estimates based on customer specifications, requirements, and budgets, while maintaining and improving the balance between ABB units and customers.
Responsibilities
- Prepare service-related quotations for ELSE and ELDS projects.
- Respond to sales representative requests for quotations, cost estimations, and condition setting.
- Communicate with sales, engineering, and customers.
- Manage tendering activities, accounting for 80% of annual order intake.
- Prepare and finalize bids, quotations, and estimates based on customer specifications, requirements, and budgets.
- Maintain and improve the balance between ABB units and customers.
- Select optimal product configurations and consider technical/commercial factors for competitive bids.
- Ensure timely preparation of bids with correct detail and accurate cost calculations.
- Manage technical, financial, and project-related aspects of bid preparation.
- Present pricing and commercial conditions.
- Ensure timely collection of necessary inputs according to quality procedures.
- Manage external support services like translation and government approvals.
- Collect and maintain offer/order documentation.
- Record assumptions and decisions made during the bidding process.
- Report bid/quotation status and analyze reasons for winning/losing bids.
- Identify potential risks in bids and contracts and participate in risk review processes.
- Gather and consolidate all necessary technical and cost information for proposal preparation.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships to understand their needs.
- Provide technical support to sales managers during customer meetings.
- Identify and technically evaluate vendors for required equipment and materials.
- Coordinate subcontracting with Supply Chain Management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred; consideration given based on experience.
- Japanese: Business level (JLPT N1 or equivalent).
- English: Business level (primarily reading and writing) for communication with overseas factories and international customers.
- Experience in low-voltage and medium-voltage business.
- At least 3 years of on-site electrical experience.
- Experience in preparing quotations/estimates.
- Field experience is essential for understanding service-related estimation work.
- Experience in switchgear business (preferred).
- Proactive and self-driven.
- Strong communication skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work in a multinational, matrix organization.
- Flexibility to travel domestically within the assigned region.
