About the Role

We are seeking motivated interns to join our team, focusing on CAD design and FDM 3D printing. You will work on real products, contributing to the entire process from digital model to finished component, bridging CAD design and FDM 3D printing in a meaningful medical context.

Responsibilities

  • CAD design and modeling: Design, adapt, and develop 3D models for orthopedic aids and test components using accessible CAD tools (e.g., Fusion 360, Tinkercad, Blender).
  • Parametric & generative design: Develop customizable, patient-specific models based on 3D scan data or measurements.
  • FDM 3D printing: Slicing & process optimization: Prepare print files using slicing software (e.g., Cura, PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer), select appropriate print parameters and materials (PLA, PETG, TPU, bio-based filaments).
  • Quality assurance & post-processing: Verify print results for dimensional accuracy, strength, and fit.
  • Printer operation & maintenance: Assist with the operation and maintenance of our FDM printer line.
  • Team collaboration: Coordinate closely with software development, orthopedic technicians, and product development to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.

Requirements

  • Enrolled student in a relevant field of study, such as Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Technology, Medical Technology, Industrial Design, Product Design, Technical Design, or a comparable discipline with a focus on CAD, construction, or manufacturing technology.
  • Initial experience with CAD software (e.g., Fusion 360, Meshmixer, Tinkercad, or Blender; experience with SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar is also welcome).
  • Basic understanding of FDM 3D printing (print parameters, materials, support structures, slicing).
  • Interest in parametric or generative design.
  • Meticulous, structured work approach and technical understanding.
  • Team spirit, initiative, and eagerness to learn.
  • Good German or English language skills.
  • Motivation, willingness to learn, and a good sense of scale and function are valued more than perfect skills.
