About the Role
Greenberg Traurig (GT), a global law firm, has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for a 2nd – 6th year Associate in the U.S. State and Local Tax (SALT) Practice. The Associate will have the opportunity to work with clients, large and small, from a variety of industries across the country.
Responsibilities
- Provide tax planning and advice to clients, including major multinational corporations, large privately-owned businesses, financial institutions, exempt organizations, and private individuals.
- Develop practical legal services to meet client challenges.
- Provide U.S., cross-border, and state and local tax advice in connection with domestic and international mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other corporate transactions.
- Advise on global business structures, capital markets, fund formation, real estate investment/financing, finance and financial instruments, and dispute resolution and litigation.
- Counsel senior management and business owners on tax issues regarding personal income, estate, gift, and wealth transfer matters.
- Address complex challenges of today’s uncertain market, seeking greater efficiency in tax planning, ensuring compliance with ever-changing tax laws, and coordinating tax decisions from country to country.
- Offer a complete set of State & Local Tax services, including counseling and controversy services.
- Counsel clients on transactional planning, tax-advantaged business restructuring, audit defense and representation in state and local administrative proceedings, appeals, and large-scale multi-jurisdictional litigation.
- Partner with the firm’s Government Law and Policy Practice to help clients achieve results in the legislature.
Requirements
- Solid academic credentials from a top law school.
- Strong writing and advocacy skills.
- Admitted to the California bar.
- Submit resume, cover letter, law school transcript, and a writing sample.
Skills
- Interest in federal and state tax controversies (preferred).
- Property tax experience (preferred).
- Prior government experience from a state or federal agency or court (preferred).
