About the Role
The Staff Accountant will support the Controller with day-to-day accounting activities, focusing on Accounts Receivable and other accounting tasks. This role involves close communication with internal staff and external organizations, managing billing and collections for various entities on Governors Island.
Responsibilities
- Generate invoices in the Yardi accounting system.
- Post daily deposits and apply payments to invoices.
- Generate outstanding A/R reports and update leadership on status.
- Initiate revenue collection and follow up on outstanding A/R issues.
- Communicate with clients regarding billing discrepancies and overdue payments.
- Record and develop tracking methods for other revenue entries.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper transaction recording and variance analysis.
- Support additional accounting functions such as payroll, accounts payable, and bank reconciliations.
- Assist with the annual audit and preparation of quarterly financial reports.
- Participate in special projects and analyses.
Requirements
- BA/BS in accounting or related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in a not-for-profit or government environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with Yardi is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to follow up independently.
- Clear communication skills.
