Responsibilities

  • Escort patients within the reception area, waiting room, procedure/examination room, recovery area, or washroom as needed.
  • Collaborate with Medical Secretaries, RNs, and Physicians to manage patient flow for maximum efficiency and satisfaction.
  • Ensure all patients in the waiting room are accounted for and assisted.
  • Replenish patient education materials in exam rooms, central areas, physician areas, and reception.
  • Prepare procedure/examination rooms for daily activities and specific patient procedures, ensuring equipment, supplies, and forms are ready.
  • Turn over procedure/examination rooms after each patient, adhering to Infection Control processes.
  • Transport instrumentation to the soiled utility room after patient use and organize for transport to MDRC.
  • Relay patient concerns to Health Care Providers.
  • Anticipate and respond to the needs of the Health Care team during procedures.
  • Order, receive, and stock medical/surgical supplies and linens daily.
  • Support inventory management by anticipating supply needs.
  • Ensure medication and surgical supplies are within their expiry dates monthly.
  • Prepare and replenish hospital requisitions.
  • Maintain the neatness and organization of procedure/examination rooms, and utility rooms.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of carts, equipment, and workstations.
  • Prepare and organize specimens for pick-up.
  • Perform end-of-day functions to prepare for the next day.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment.
  • Maintain excellent communication.
  • Function effectively in a team environment.
  • Maintain knowledge of current practices related to Surgical Services.
  • Potentially work in all areas of Surgical Services Clinics.
  • Act as a role model and champion for safe, best practices to optimize care delivery.

Requirements

  • Must reside and be legally eligible to work in Ontario.
  • Secondary School Diploma required.
  • 2 years of relevant experience in a medical/ambulatory clinic setting.
  • GYN/surgical clinic experience.
  • Experience with sterile tray set up.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Patient-focused with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Skilled at multi-tasking, prioritization, and organization.
  • Proficient time management and problem-solving skills with minimal direction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Competent computer skills.
  • Superior ability in developing patient and workplace relations.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position (frequent walking, standing, reaching, bending, and ability to push up to 40 pounds).
  • Strong attendance record.
  • Professional behavior and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital.
  • Plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all.
  • Employment is conditional upon verification of credentials, completion of a health review, and proof of immunity and vaccination status.
