About the Role

Under the general guidance of the Lead Clinical Aide, the Clinical Aide will perform a variety of patient care interventions to manage and structure the therapeutic milieu. This role also assists with the non-nursing portion of patient admissions to create a positive patient experience, obtains patient information, and provides guidance on clinic procedures. Aides may also be required to perform minor diagnostic procedures and sterilize equipment.

Responsibilities

Performs patient care procedures including measuring vital signs (weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature).
Manages the non-nursing portion of patient admission, including handling belongings and searches.
Obtains admission urine tests and performs other screening/testing per unit policy.
Orients patients to the unit and rooms patients.
Creates a positive experience by welcoming and assisting patients.
Promotes patient safety by maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
Mediates between patients and healthcare providers.
Guides patients through the program’s various facilities and procedures.
Sterilizes medical equipment and sanitizes designated areas.
Provides housekeeping duties such as preparing rooms for admission and assisting with patient laundry.
Serves as a nurse’s aide by assisting nursing staff as needed, including getting drinks and/or food for patients.

Requirements

A minimum of one year working in a chemical dependency facility is strongly preferred.
A compassionate understanding of chemical dependence as a disease; preference to persons in recovery from chemical dependency.

Skills

Valid New York State Driver’s License, acceptable driving record and ability to operate a company vehicle without restriction.
New York State Certified Nursing Assistant a plus.
Experience with clinical procedures such as specimen collection and diagnostic testing.
Strong communication skills with medical and clinical practitioners.
Basic knowledge of healthcare practices, standards, and medical terminology.
Experience using an electronic health record and ability to accurately record in a progress note.
Proficient in basic computer skills including email, Microsoft Word, and data entry.
Exceptional interpersonal skills to assist and reassure patients.
Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks as directed by healthcare professionals.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
