About the Role

The Site Engineer I position is a contributing member to the site level Data Center Operations team, reporting directly to the Manager Engineering Operations. The candidate will have experience in mission critical infrastructure, including Generators, UPS Systems, HVAC Systems, Fire/Life Safety Systems, BMS Systems, and CMMS systems, with expertise in either electrical or mechanical work and competence in the area of non-expertise. Responsibilities include contributing to daily site operations, creating and modifying operating procedures, contributing to change management tickets, incident reporting, and performing maintenance and repairs to ensure high availability.

Responsibilities

• Gain a complete understanding of facility layout and operation of MEP systems, equipment nomenclature, locations, drawings, specifications, sequences of operations, SOPs, EOPs, customer SLAs, and engineering obligations.
• Understand BMS alarm functionality, escalation, acknowledgement, data extraction, trends, DLR event management, escalation, incident reporting procedures, and CMMS.
• Create, edit, implement, and close change management work orders.
• Create, edit, resolve, and close incident reports.
• Adhere to Maintenance and Operations Standards and Digital Realty’s Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
• Gain a complete understanding of all aspects of data center operations, including operation, maintenance, and repair of mission critical equipment and systems to achieve 100% uptime and SLA compliance.
• Supervise construction activity and installations as required.
• Execute site-specific change management processes, including creating MOPs for low-risk preventative maintenance and repairs, and overseeing their execution.
• Effectively troubleshoot site mechanical and electrical systems.
• Respond to unplanned events without immediate supervision.
• Efficiently complete rounds/inspections and detect anomalies.
• Develop or improve SOPs for site-specific equipment.
• Gain a good understanding of local customers' businesses and datacenter operations.
• Support various accreditation initiatives (SSAE16, SOC2, ISO 27001, etc.).
• Complete DLR Critical Awareness Training.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in mission critical facilities operating/engineering or equivalent equipment experience.
• Hands-on electrical or mechanical skill and competence in the area of non-expertise.
• Strong knowledge of various UPS Systems and architectures.
• Strong knowledge of various cooling systems and architectures.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure redundancy configurations and equipment risks (N+1, 2N, ATS/ STS, Failover Scenarios).
• Strong knowledge of energy efficiency principles.
• Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to respond effectively, verbally and in writing, to sensitive issues, complex inquiries, or complaints.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Project, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, or AutoCad.
• Basic understanding of emergency situations and escalation processes.
• Strong understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), and power metering systems.
• Ability to lift and handle up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, and stretch as required for placement and retrieval of network devices, materials, or equipment.
• Ability to work under a raised data center floor.
• Ability to climb ladders (up to 16 feet) to reach plenum spaces.
