About the Role
As an Accountant, you will play a crucial role in our finance team by managing day-to-day accounting tasks and contributing to strategic financial processes. You will ensure our financial records are accurate and up-to-date, and you will contribute significantly to our financial decision-making processes. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional looking to grow their career in a dynamic and fast-paced SaaS environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain accurate and timely financial records by entering and verifying transactions, including complex reconciliations.
- Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare and process invoices, payments, and expense reports, ensuring adherence to policies.
- Support tax filing in the US and Canada.
- Support the audit process by providing comprehensive documentation and information as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and provide financial guidance.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a SaaS or tech environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian and US accounting standards and tax regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, ERP systems) and advanced Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and relevant regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across departments.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and contribute effectively as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Located in the GTA and be in the office a minimum of TWO days a week.
- Experience with cloud-based accounting systems and financial modeling.
- Strong understanding of SaaS business models and revenue recognition.
- Experience working in a Startup environment.
