About the Role
As a Data Scientist, you will collaborate with Product, Business, Data, and Engineering teams to enhance decision-making and improve member experiences. Your responsibilities will span analyzing member behavior, evaluating experiments, and developing recommendation systems and predictive models to optimize marketplace performance. This is a hands-on role with significant ownership, involving end-to-end project management from scoping to iteration, in close partnership with stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Deliver measurable business impact by owning 1-2 end-to-end data science projects, from problem framing and analysis through implementation, measurement, and iteration.
- Apply analytics, experimentation, and machine learning to solve business problems, recognizing when simpler solutions are more appropriate.
- Contribute to Borrowell’s personalization and recommendation systems to enhance product and experience matching for members.
- Partner with Product, Business, Data, and Engineering teams to translate business questions into actionable insights and recommendations.
- Scale the team’s capabilities by contributing reusable datasets, features, documentation, monitoring, and processes.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience applying data science, analytics, and machine learning to solve real business problems.
- Ability to break down ambiguous business questions, identify relevant data, and recommend a practical path forward.
- Experience building and evaluating predictive models, including feature engineering, model validation, and handling challenges like class imbalance, leakage, and data quality issues.
- Experience with experimentation and A/B testing.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining insights, recommendations, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable owning work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Must clear a credit and criminal record check.
