About the Role
The AI Security Institute's Research Unit is seeking Software Engineers for its Core Technology Team to work on critical research-oriented software and infrastructure. This role involves using cutting-edge technologies on impactful research problems, with mentorship from managers and technical leads, and interaction with leading researchers and staff from top tech companies and universities.
Responsibilities
- Add a feature to "sandbox plugins" for Inspect, supporting advanced agentic evals with safe mechanisms for code execution.
- Implement support for new classes of open-weights models on the model hosting platform.
- Support research teams by designing custom infrastructure for new projects.
- Collaborate with the open-source community on features for Inspect or its plugin ecosystem.
- Assist with evaluations of frontier AI models, debugging issues in Inspect arising from API changes.
- Write production quality code at a fast pace.
- Design, ship, and maintain complex tech products.
- Improve technical standards across a team through mentoring and feedback.
Requirements
- Experience writing production quality code.
- Experience writing code efficiently.
- Python experience, including understanding language intricacies, Pythonic practices, and the wider ecosystem/tooling.
- Experience building and maintaining systems on AWS or other cloud providers using infrastructure-as-code.
