About the Role
As a Staff Data Scientist on the Consumer Portfolio Growth team, you will identify growth opportunities across PayPal's consumer product portfolio. You will apply advanced analytics to complex business challenges, influence key decisions across the consumer ecosystem, and partner with senior stakeholders to drive growth, engagement, and long-term customer value.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage data science projects ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Develop and maintain data models, algorithms, and reporting systems.
- Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide actionable insights.
- Ensure data quality and integrity through audits and validation.
- Mentor and guide junior data scientists.
- Lead deep-dive analyses to diagnose trends and identify growth opportunities.
- Apply machine learning, causal inference, synthetic controls, and propensity score matching.
- Build and evolve customer segmentation frameworks.
- Monitor consumer funnel metrics including activation, engagement, retention, and monetization.
- Develop business cases and opportunity-sizing analyses for strategic investments.
- Leverage AI-assisted tools and LLM-based technologies to accelerate analysis and automate workflows.
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, or Mathematics.
- Advanced expertise in SQL and Python.
- Experience analyzing large, multi-dimensional datasets.
- Demonstrated experience applying advanced analytical methods in a business context.
- Track record of translating analytical findings into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Experience defining analytical frameworks, measurement methodologies, or experimentation strategies.
- Experience mentoring junior team members.
- Proficiency in visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau or Looker.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
