About the Role
HDR is seeking a Senior Laboratory Planner to coordinate all aspects of Laboratory Planning and Design on projects. This role involves analyzing complex program information, developing strong laboratory design concepts integrated with architectural and engineering designs, and leading project teams and client interactions. The position requires acting as a client advocate, presenting HDR's expertise to prospective clients, and contributing to market sector presence through technical presentations and publications.
Responsibilities
- Creates content and presents HDR expertise and capabilities to prospective clients
- Leads lab planning efforts on projects
- Analyzes program information and develops an overall laboratory concept
- Responsible for the design of laboratory space with complex features
- Develops and coordinates room design criteria for projects and distributes to the project team
- Develops laboratory equipment list and casework layouts for projects
- Reviews applicable code data
- Provides leadership within the Education and Science Planning Group
- Presents technical information to conferences and seminars or gets published at least every other year
- Other such duties as are consistent with the position
Requirements
- A minimum of 12 years related experience
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in the construction of buildings
- Understanding of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, prints, drawings and models
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
- Exposure to full range of Laboratory Planning and Design
- Benchmarking studies experience
- Able to lead project planning team
- Experience interviewing client/users/owners
- Strong analytical skills and experience gathering information and interfacing with equipment vendors
- Good communication skills
- Strong graphic and oral presentation capabilities
- Enthusiasm for working within a team environment
- Ability to mentor and train Laboratory Planners
