About the Role

The Network Security Engineer implements and maintains security controls that protect NSW Police’s systems and data, ensuring secure design, risk mitigation, and compliance. By embedding security into technology platforms, it helps safeguard sensitive information and supports the organisation’s mission to uphold public safety and trust.

Responsibilities

• Configure, deploy, and manage Check Point and Cisco firewalls.
• Monitor firewall performance, logs, and security alerts.
• Implement and maintain firewall policies, NAT rules, VPN configurations, and access control lists.
• Perform regular firewall rule reviews and optimization.
• Troubleshoot network and security issues related to firewalls.
• Ensure compliance with organizational security standards and policies.
• Maintain documentation for configurations, processes, and incident reports.
• Participate in security audits and vulnerability assessments.
• Extensive knowledge in Change Management, incident management and problem management.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5+ years hands-on experience.
• Experience with firewall log analysis and troubleshooting tools.
• Knowledge of security best practices and threat mitigation.
• Familiarity with SIEM tools is a plus.
• SASE Experience (highly desirable)
• Proofpoint Email Security (highly desirable)
• Check Point Certified Security Administrator (CCSA) / CCSE
• CCNA / CCNP Security (optional but preferred)
• Must be an Australian Citizen, a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen.
• Must undergo a rigorous National Police (criminal history) Check and obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.
