About the Role

As a Public Educator, you will work to build greater understanding and reduce the stigma around mental health and addictions through education. You will share information, resources, and stories to open conversations with community businesses, family members, clients with lived experience, and the broader public. You will also build partnerships and increase the visibility of mental health and addictions issues through public speaking and leading workshops, events, and trainings.

Responsibilities

Develop and facilitate educational and skill enhancement training workshops/programs
Research and monitor new mental health and addictions education tools, resources, training, and key stats/indicators
Develop an inventory of PowerPoint presentations and facilitate educational and skill enhancement training workshops
Act as a resource to other staff members supporting outside agencies or community partners with education resources
Liaise with community partners for future training needs
Work with Program Support staff to build a viable training schedule
Obtain feedback from presentations and use it to develop new programs and workshops based on community needs and developments
Participate in planning and facilitating mental health and addiction awareness activities
Participate in health fairs, awareness walks, and events
Maintain positive relationships with businesses and community partners
Work with Program Support to organize staff speakers, info displays, and events
Support individuals of lived experience, family members, and supporters in promoting positive mental health and wellness
Work collaboratively within the organization's programs to support education and awareness campaigns
Coordinate and maintain supplies, room bookings, and materials for presentations
Determine costs and manage payment options for fee-for-service offerings
Coach employees participating as speakers
Reply to information requests
Provide occasional support for the internal sharing of resources for community events
Provide regular updates to content and calendar items on the branch website
Evaluate and report on Public Education activities
Perform other duties as required

Requirements

Post-secondary university degree or college diploma, preferably in Adult Education, social services, or a related field
Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
Valid Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle with adequate insurance
Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

Public speaking
Developing dynamic, interactive presentations
In-depth understanding of mental health, addictions, trauma, and social issues
Familiarity with a recovery-based model of care
Awareness of the needs of diverse communities
Extensive knowledge of community resources, services, and support programs
Knowledge of barriers individuals face in accessing supports
Working knowledge of a variety of treatment, intervention, and support strategies

Multisite accountability within the Thames Valley Region (London, Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford & South Huron Zones)

Work Type

Full-Time
Contract (Ending: March 31, 2027)
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends

Experience Level

Grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8

Education Level

Post-secondary university degree or college diploma
Certification as a trainer in at least one of the following is preferred: ASIST., Mental Health First Aid, Living Life to the Fullest, Mental Health Works or similar certified programs
Training in CPI, First Aid & CPR

Salary/Compensations

Starting rate: $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service)
Wage differential for regulation: $30.01 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated)
Grid progression up to $34.41 per hour (non-regulated) or $37.26 per hour (regulated)
