About the Role
PG&E’s Local Government Affairs team leads government relations and strategies in the cities and counties served, shaping public policy to support customers, invest in climate resiliency, and ensure the company's long-term success. This role involves developing and maintaining strong governmental, political, and community relationships within San Francisco, requiring extensive external engagement and consensus-building across diverse stakeholder groups.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a strong governmental, political, and community network within San Francisco.
- Serve as the primary political contact for assigned elected officials, departments, and agencies in San Francisco.
- Monitor activities of local jurisdictions and special districts that impact PG&E.
- Manage issues before local political bodies by coordinating internal analysis, developing company positions, and representing PG&E in public forums.
- Maintain a high level of awareness of the local political landscape and PG&E policy priorities; provide strategic political and governmental insight.
- Act as a liaison to senior government staff and elected officials and respond to escalated customer issues referred by those offices.
- Build and sustain partnerships with community organizations that support PG&E programs, assist customers, and advance company priorities.
- Lead local charitable giving strategies and community investment efforts within San Francisco.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to design and implement community engagement strategies that enhance PG&E’s presence and reputation in San Francisco.
- Lead or support company programs, projects, and initiatives with public affairs components.
- Develop and execute political and community engagement strategies aligned with operational objectives.
- Assess potential impacts to the company and develop clear, effective written and verbal communications.
- Participate in the company’s on-call rotation (approximately 25%), serving as the liaison between PG&E and local government leadership during emergencies, outages, and major events.
- Provide timely, accurate coordination and communication with city leadership during response efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 6-years’ experience working for an elected official, public or non-profit agency or as a political consultant or other relevant experience.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Relations, International Relations, or related field desired.
- Master’s degree desired.
- Certificate of completion, coursework, or training from a university/college, vocational school, and/or extended learning within the areas of government relations, community relations, public administration, philanthropy, economic development, marketing, public relations, or related field desired.
- CPR, Smith Driving School and ICS Training.
- Eight (8) years of experience desired working for an elected official, public or non-profit agency or as a political consultant.
- Seven (7) years of government advocacy experience desired for highly regulated industries such as utility, health care, banking, or political campaign experience.
- Emergency response experience desired.
- Prior utility industry experience desired.

- Excellent written, verbal, and public presentation skills.
- Ability to lead and collaborate across cross-functional teams.
- Confident public speaker.
- Experience in public testimony and political engagement.
- Government advocacy experience.

Salary/Compensations
- Bay Area Minimum $ 132,000
- Bay Area Maximum $ 168,000
