About the Role
Support strategy, planning, and execution of communications to clients, staff, and the public. This role is ideal for a storyteller with strong copywriting and copyediting skills, who pays close attention to detail, is highly organized, and has a desire to gain hands-on experience in a communications role.
Responsibilities
- Write, edit, and copyedit for web, social media, and flyers.
- Transcribe interviews.
- Monitor online media coverage.
- Schedule posts and engage with audiences on social media.
- Assist with social media analytics.
- Create graphics (social media tiles, flyers) in Canva or Adobe.
- Edit and resize photos.
- Update website content (WordPress).
- Assist with administrative tasks.
- Organize media releases in online database.
- Provide periodic on-site support at shelters across New York City.
- Support event planning and logistics.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be able to work 14–21 hours per week.
- Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student.
- Must submit writing samples (at least one but no more than three).
- Strong writing and copyediting skills.
- Design experience with Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or InDesign.
- Knowledge of Premiere and After Effects is a plus.
- Experience with WordPress preferred.
- Basic understanding of communications strategies.
- Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor (in-person and virtual).
- Familiar with social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram).
- Interest in HFH’s mission and clients served.
