About the Role

Texas Oncology is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to support the Central Austin location. This full-time position offers a Monday-Friday schedule with no weekends, call, or major holidays. The role's level (1, 2, or Sr) will be determined by candidate experience. A $2,500.00 sign-on bonus is available.

Responsibilities

• Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms.
• Records patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
• Obtains necessary patient records prior to treatment or procedures.
• Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies.
• Assists physicians with exams and procedures.
• Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated.
• Maintains exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
• Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
• Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed.
• Informs physician of patient reschedules and no-shows.
• Performs administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, and reception.
• May enter orders under provider direction and supervision.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire (Level 1).
• Current CPR certification required (Level Sr).
• Ability to escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms.
• Ability to record patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
• Ability to obtain necessary patient records prior to treatment or procedures.
• Ability to prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies.
• Ability to assist physicians with exams and procedures.
• Ability to administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.
• Ability to maintain exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
• Ability to answer patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
• Ability to phone in prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed.
• Ability to inform physician of patient reschedules and no-shows.
• Ability to perform administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, and reception.
• Ability to enter orders under provider direction and supervision.
• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment may occur.

Experience Level

Education Level

• Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
