About the Role
The Chief of Staff to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) is a senior operator responsible for overseeing the operations of a 300+-person global marketing organization. This role designs and owns the operating system that enables the marketing function to scale with speed, alignment, and discipline, and represents the CMO across the organization, resolving cross-functional friction without escalation.
Responsibilities
- Design and run the operating cadence for the marketing organization, including Marketing Leadership Team meetings, QBRs, offsites, board prep, and executive readouts.
- Ensure milestones and key deliverables are met, and decisions happen on schedule.
- Build workback plans and manage risk for major moments, ensuring stakeholder alignment.
- Act as an extension of the CMO in key settings, attending leadership and cross-functional forums, providing direction, and making decisions.
- Broker alignment between marketing functions and with Sales, Product, Engineering, Customer, and Finance organizations.
- Partner with DRIs on high-priority cross-functional projects, assisting with definition and delivery.
- Lead budget, headcount, and operating model governance in partnership with FP&A and People.
- Track spend/investment against priorities and surface risks early.
- Draft executive communications, including board materials, all-hands content, leadership updates, and strategic narratives.
- Own the system for tracking Marketing-owned conversations, business performance, and decision points.
- Conduct monthly trajectory reviews to ensure decisions are evidence-based.
Requirements
- 8-12 years of experience in top-tier management consulting and/or senior operating roles within high-growth B2B SaaS companies.
- Proven experience as Chief of Staff, Head of Marketing/Business/Sales Operations, or senior strategy and operations leader at a $1B+ revenue technology company.
- Demonstrated ability to operate at the executive level, including participation in executive staff meetings and cross-functional forums.
- Ability to navigate complex organizations without direct authority.
- Exceptional written communication skills, capable of producing board-ready output with crisp narratives and translating complex strategy into simple messages.
- Proficiency in using AI fluently across drafting, synthesis, and analysis, with a mindset of agents and automation.
- Strong systems thinking ability, understanding how pieces fit together and designing for scale.
- Low ego and high judgment, with a focus on moving the organization forward through collaboration and influence.
- High emotional intelligence (EQ), with the ability to read the room, anticipate friction, and broker alignment.
- Discretion at the executive level, operating as a trusted confidant to the CMO.
