About the Role

The Treasury & Structured Finance Legal team is seeking a Legal Counsel in London to provide legal advice and support to Santander UK's CFO Division and other business divisions. The role involves negotiating and executing derivatives and securities lending transactions for liquidity management and hedging, advising on wholesale funding, and focusing on secured loan-linked hedging across various asset classes.

Responsibilities

Provide legal advice and support to the CFO Division of Santander UK and other business divisions.
Negotiate and execute derivatives and securities lending transactions to support the bank’s liquidity management and commercial banking hedging proposition.
Advise on a range of wider wholesale funding matters.
Focus on secured loan-linked hedging across commercial lending, real estate finance, social housing, project finance, and private credit.
Advise on the regulatory framework for derivatives and securities lending, monitor legal and regulatory developments, and participate in working groups.
Involve in strategic bank-wide projects relevant to the Treasury team.
Contribute to the optimization of the legal function’s output, including through digital solutions/AI.

Requirements

Qualified solicitor with 2+ years PQE.
Solid understanding of derivatives, securities lending/repos, trading infrastructure, and their associated regulatory framework.
Experience of secured lending, including facility agreements and intercreditor agreements and derivative/hedging agreements linked to those structures is preferred.
General banking or securitisation experience with a desire to widen understanding of derivatives is also suitable.
Good knowledge and understanding of the regulatory framework applicable to UK financial services, industry trends, and best practice.
Experience working in a transactional environment (either in private practice or in house).
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
Reputable commercial, pragmatic, and enthusiastic approach in undertaking tasks.
Commercially minded with an ability to adapt to a varied workload.
Numeracy skills with good experience of Excel and PowerPoint are preferred.
Must have the right to work in the UK.
