About the Role

Santander is evolving into a technology-driven organization, and this role is crucial in supporting that transformation. The Legal Counsel will advise on Digital, Technology, Operations, Infrastructure, Payments, Data Privacy, and Intellectual Property, with a focus on drafting, negotiating, and advising on outsourcing and technology agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic advice to business teams for structuring and implementing innovation and technology projects.
  • Working closely with senior stakeholders to deliver expert, accurate, concise, commercial, and cost-effective legal advice.
  • Demonstrating creativity and innovation in finding practical solutions and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Sharing technical skills, experience, and best practices with colleagues and supporting other departments through training and template development.
  • Staying updated on legal and financial services industry developments to ensure Santander UK reacts appropriately and improves processes.
  • Answering legal queries from internal customers and managing external suppliers/stakeholders to deliver advice and projects on time.

Requirements

  • Experience providing legal advice that is readily understandable to non-lawyers.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of outsourcing, digital, technology, and commercial contract law.
  • Excellent knowledge of the regulatory regime impacting outsourcing in financial services, such as the PRA’s Supervisory Statement on Outsourcing and Third Party Risk Management (SS2/21).
  • Ability to manage and influence stakeholders.
  • Experience dealing with a large volume of matters and competing demands.
  • Excellent project management skills, with an ability to manage multiple, conflicting interests and deadlines.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK.
