About the Role

A rewarding opportunity has presented itself for a dedicated and driven individual to join our team as a Horticulturist. In this role you will work as part of a team that focuses on the maintenance and improvement of Council's Parks, Gardens, and other landscaped areas with a focus on Sylvan Grove Native Gardens.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure gardens including annuals, native & non-native, high profile, traffic facilities and other landscaped areas are maintained in accordance with service requirements, service agreements, rosters and programs.
  • Provide recommendations for mulching, watering, maintenance, embellishment and improvement and implement as required.
  • Provide on the job skills development and training to staff.
  • Undertake risk and hazard assessments of all areas under the crew's control and where necessary take corrective action.
  • Identify, report and where possible rectify landscape deficiencies especially in the area of gardens & landscape area maintenance.
  • Provide assistance and advice to Council, management, staff, customers and the community when necessary.
  • Ensure all works under the position holder’s control are completed within timeframes.
  • Finalise completion of works requests as allocated.

Requirements

  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Horticulture or a similar relevant field
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence
  • Chemical Users Accreditation Certificate or equivalent
  • Experience in Gardens maintenance.
  • Skills & experience necessary to fulfil the role, responsibilities, duties and competency requirements of the position.
  • Successful applicants may be required to undertake a Criminal History Check, Medical and/or Working with Children Check in accordance with the position.
  • Applicants must hold an Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or possess a valid work permit/visa with full unrestricted working rights to be eligible.

Salary/Compensations

  • $71,820 (Grade D, Step 1) + AWACA + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
