About the Role

The Dean of Service Learning & Field Studies provides strategic leadership, pedagogical vision, and operational oversight for K-8 experiential education, including place-based learning, service learning, and civic engagement. This role ensures experiential learning is integrated into the core curriculum while cultivating student agency and sustainable community partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with division heads and faculty to integrate experiential and place-based learning into the K-8 curriculum.
• Partner with the Director of Quaker Life to align programs with Quaker testimonies.
• Develop structured reflection practices to help students and faculty process experiential activities.
• Cultivate and evaluate reciprocal, long-term partnerships with local non-profits and community organizations.
• Partner with the Director of Community and Belonging to align off-site experiences with equity and inclusion initiatives.
• Lead planning, scheduling, and logistics for all off-site day trips and overnight programs.
• Manage safety protocols, risk assessment policies, and emergency procedures for off-site programming.
• Oversee the annual budget for experiential learning and community initiatives.
• Train chaperones and coordinate with classroom teachers on curriculum connections and logistics.
• Manage communications for families regarding field studies and share program impact with the school community.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Experiential Education, School Leadership, or a related field.
• Deep understanding of K-8 child development, project-based learning, and place-based education.
• Experience managing complex trip logistics, vendor relationships, contracts, and risk management.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
• Ability to build authentic relationships across diverse communities.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Must obtain SB 848 Authorization and pass reference checks.
• Must pass Livescan background check.
• Must provide proof of US employment eligibility.
• Must provide TB clearance certificate.

Salary/Compensations

• $125,000 to $135,000 annually
