About the Role

The Reproductive Research Co-op Student is a trainee position assisting with research and service projects in the Endocrinology and Gamete Biology Labs. Responsibilities include sample organization, preparation and analysis, public outreach, development of educational materials, data collation, and report writing to support the organization's Strategic Plan.

Responsibilities

• Assist with research projects as directed by the manager
• Conduct lab or field research, compile and analyze data, and report on results
• Provide assistance with program resources and educational materials
• Perform daily lab maintenance for assigned projects
• Assist with public outreach including tours, presentations, and workshops
• Write articles, blogs, and other public communications
• Perform literature searches and reviews
• Provide regular updates to the manager
• Report all accidents and hazards immediately
• Adhere to health and safety policies and use proper PPE
• Report equipment defects or safety concerns to the supervisor
• Work in compliance with Health & Safety, WHMIS, and organizational policies
• Attend required training courses

Requirements

• Must be working towards a post-secondary degree in an Arts and Science Co-op program in a relevant field such as biology, zoology, or environmental sciences
• Must possess an understanding of research methods, general lab function, and technical knowledge
• Must have strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• Must have working knowledge of WHMIS legislation, the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Toronto Zoo Safety Policy
• Must be capable of meeting the physical demands of the position
• May be required to provide a police reference check and/or driver’s abstract at own expense
• May be required to take a written and/or practical examination
