About the Role

The Business Development Senior Specialist serves as a liaison to assigned practice and/or industry groups, developing and executing strategies and managing business development pursuits, marketing campaigns, client events, and key account activity. This role involves understanding service offerings, lawyers, and clients to foster cross-selling initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as lead project manager for RFPs and pitches.
  • Writes new business proposals and conducts matter research.
  • Supports follow-up and debrief activities post-pitch.
  • Supports practice/industry team leadership on marketing and client development plans.
  • Attends and contributes to practice/industry group meetings.
  • Develops and refines business development infrastructure, ensuring consistency and accuracy of marketing collateral.
  • Helps prepare and manage the group’s BD budget and analyzes initiative ROI.
  • Conducts industry, client, and competitive research.
  • Facilitates the planning and implementation of new business or cross-marketing opportunities.
  • Leads the drafting and submission of rankings, awards, surveys, and league tables.
  • Plans client programs and Sidley-sponsored events.
  • Identifies thought leadership topics and lawyers for media commentary, article publication, and podcasts.
  • Recommends and facilitates the involvement of Firm lawyers in professional organizations.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional marketing, business development, or other relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Marketing, business development, or related experience in a law firm or other professional services organization is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of customer relationship, pipeline, and experience management databases such as InterAction, Salesforce, and/or Foundation is preferred.
  • Familiarity with relevant company/market research tools, as well as law firm rankings, awards, and league table publications is preferred.
