About the Role

You will join the AFC Technology organisation in Berlin as a Lead Full Stack Engineer (f/m/x) with a strong focus on UI and frontend architecture. You will co-lead a UI Platform team responsible for building and evolving a shared frontend platform used across multiple AFC product teams. This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role focused on creating scalable UI foundations rather than delivering a single product. While the role includes backend exposure (primarily Java), its primary focus is on modern frontend technologies. You will drive platform-level frontend solutions, including Angular component libraries, design systems, Node.js build toolchains, micro frontends, performance, accessibility, and long-term maintainability.

Responsibilities

  • Co-lead the UI Platform team, providing hands-on technical leadership in close collaboration with the Architect / Lead Engineer
  • Design, implement and evolve a scalable Angular-based UI platform, including a large reusable component library and shared frontend capabilities
  • Ensure the platform addresses non-functional requirements such as performance, accessibility, security, usability and long-term maintainability
  • Partner with downstream product teams to enable adoption, gather feedback and continuously improve the platform
  • Ensure all platform development complies with bank standards, security requirements and SDLC best practices

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in modern frontend engineering, ideally with Angular and TypeScript
  • Significant experience designing and maintaining large-scale component libraries and/or shared UI platforms (open-source community management is also a plus)
  • Strong grasp of CSS architecture, accessibility (a11y), performance optimisation and UX consistency at scale
  • Experience working closely with UX/UI designers to turn design systems into robust engineering solutions
  • Strong experience with automated frontend and platform testing (e.g. Cypress, Playwright, component testing, contract testing)
  • Good understanding of backend systems and APIs, with hands-on or prior experience in Java-based environments (e.g. Spring-based services)
  • Strong appreciation of frontend-to-backend contracts, API evolution and backwards compatibility
  • Exposure to containerised environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-native delivery models
  • Understanding of DevOps / SRE principles in production-grade systems
