About the Role

Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada is seeking a specialist to provide instruction in compensatory independent living skills and assistive technology. This role empowers individuals with vision loss to live safely and independently through client-centered rehabilitation and community-based support.

Responsibilities

• Assess independent living needs and abilities of individuals
• Develop and prioritize independent living plans with clients
• Teach adaptive skills for personal and household management, communication, and leisure
• Provide indoor orientation, mobility, and technology training
• Assist with the acquisition and use of assistive devices
• Promote self-advocacy skills for accessing community programs
• Maintain case data and documentation per organizational procedures
• Provide consultation, public education, and in-service training
• Perform administrative duties including service tracking and report writing
• Facilitate group sessions and presentations
• Liaise with community partners, schools, and health practitioners
• Provide support and consultation to individuals and their families
• Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings
• Train, place, and supervise volunteers and students

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent
• Eligible for ACVREP Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) certification
• Knowledge and experience working with individuals with vision loss
• Knowledge and experience working with adaptive technology
• Knowledge of disabilities across all life stages
• Ability to travel within the province
• Willingness to work flexible hours
• Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check
