About the Role

The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association is seeking a motivated developer to build and enhance modern applications, including proprietary insurance software. This role involves working across the full development lifecycle, partnering with engineers and stakeholders to design, develop, and support high-quality software in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement software for custom applications or Guidewire products.
  • Integrate custom applications with other custom or commercial off-the-shelf software.
  • Create and maintain development plans for custom software and Guidewire products.
  • Estimate level of effort and timeframes for design, implementation, and testing.
  • Document, implement, and unit test code based on approved designs.
  • Provide status updates on deliverables and project timelines.
  • Troubleshoot software issues in production environments.
  • Develop and implement a personal training plan.
  • Formally document designs using established standards.
  • Plan and execute production rollouts for software upgrades.
  • Collaborate with external consultants and developers on large-scale projects.
  • Guide business personnel on the technical and business capabilities of software.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in CS, engineering, or a technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of software development experience.
  • Familiarity with formal software development processes and best practices.
  • Familiarity with software package selection processes.
  • Hands-on experience with various application architectures such as MVC or client-server.
  • Experience coding with Java, J2EE, GOSU, .NET, or other object-oriented technologies.
  • Implementation experience in at least one full software development life-cycle.
  • Experience translating business requirements into technical design documents.
  • Knowledge of database constructs and SQL.
  • Experience writing business rules, interpreting XML, and making UI design changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, configure, and test software products.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as an individual contributor and as part of a team.
  • Graduate degree in a technical discipline (preferred).
  • Familiarity with agile methodology (preferred).
  • Experience with MS SQL Server (preferred).
  • Property and casualty insurance experience (preferred).
  • Experience with Guidewire Insurance Suite (preferred).
  • IT certifications (preferred).
