About the Role

This role involves monitoring news sources, identifying breaking news, and publishing daily content. The position requires prioritizing newsworthy events, ensuring accuracy, and distilling complex information into clear, digestible content. It also involves finding trends for in-depth reporting and attending industry events.

Responsibilities

• Build familiarity with a variety of industries, companies, and newsmakers in the Bay Area.
• Monitor automated and human sources to identify breaking news.
• Prioritize newsworthy events in real time.
• Cross-check facts for accuracy, especially during fast-moving situations.
• Distill complex developments into clear, digestible information.
• Publish daily content, at least 12 articles per week.
• Identify trends in daily coverage for in-depth reporting, scoops, exclusives, and breaking news.
• Attend business events to meet and identify sources.
• Attend all required ACBJ events.
• Take on other assignments made by manager(s).
• Work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues and sources.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Desire and ability to break news and identify newsworthy events and sources.
• Strong analytical and investigative-interviewing skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to relate comfortably to a wide range of people in person, on the phone, and online.
• Clear drive to develop sources and build audience.
• Solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics, and story structure.
• Ability to leverage relationships with sources to deliver differentiating content.
• Proficient with MS Office Products.
• Proficient with Web-Based Communication Platforms (Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc.).
