About the Role

The Substitute Teacher fills in for the classroom teacher in their temporary absence, following provided plans and guiding students. This position reports to the Assistant Principal and may involve varying student supervision duties between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
  • Completes all prerequisite training including Standard Response Protocol, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Child Abuse training
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Supervises children for safety and appropriate behavior
  • Assists students in supervised activities
  • Provides guidance to students on following school rules
  • Demonstrates a willingness to respond to individual student needs
  • Reinforces positive behavior management procedures
  • Knows all emergency procedures including emergency phone numbers and building procedures
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other professionals
  • Communicates with the Principal and/or Assistant to the Principal about any problems or concerns
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Follows direction and handles multiple tasks
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or the Assistant to the Principal

Requirements

  • Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment
  • Must participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 60 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry
  • Must maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment
