About the Role
An independent claims handler responsible for managing the end-to-end claims process for healthcare professional liability policies. This role supports the company's vision of being a high-performing, sustainable specialty insurer by proactively managing claims at both individual and portfolio levels.
Responsibilities
- Proactively manage a diverse portfolio of healthcare professional liability claims from first notice of loss through resolution.
- Evaluate policy coverage, draft coverage position letters, and communicate determinations to stakeholders.
- Manage medium to high severity claims, including those exceeding $500,000.
- Maintain accurate claims records and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
- Establish and maintain timely case reserves according to authority protocols.
- Develop and execute claims strategies considering uncertainties and potential costs.
- Communicate material claims to Reinsurance and Finance departments.
- Collaborate with underwriters to share market information, identify trends, and improve policy wordings.
- Participate in client meetings to represent the company's claims philosophy.
- Manage third-party professionals and administrators, including conducting audits and file reviews.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and insureds.
- Adhere to internal policies regarding conflicts of interest and conduct risk.
Requirements
- College degree.
- Five or more years of experience handling professional liability claims, preferably in medical malpractice.
- Ability to obtain required adjuster licenses within the first 90 days of employment.
- Legal training or claims experience, including assessing liability and negotiating settlements.
- Knowledge of US and international insurance markets and regulatory frameworks.

Salary/Compensations
- $130,000 - $160,000 per year plus discretionary annual bonus
