About the Role

The Personalization team at Spotify builds the fundamental platform to ingest, model, and materialize high-scale, event-driven user behavior data. This platform supports machine learning projects that power personalized recommendations, impacting hundreds of millions of users daily through features like Home, Search, and original playlists. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of Spotify recommendations and grow engineering skills at scale.

Responsibilities

Work with large-scale data pipelines using frameworks like Scio, BigQuery, Google Cloud Platform, and Apache Beam.
Develop, deploy, and operate Java services impacting millions of users.
Support machine learning projects that personalize user experiences.
Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders.
Deliver scalable, testable, maintainable, and high-quality code.
Share knowledge and promote standard methodologies through mentorship.

Requirements

Experience building and operating large-scale backend systems and data pipelines in production.
Proficiency in Java and experience developing, deploying, and supporting high-traffic services.
Hands-on experience with modern data processing frameworks and cloud technologies (e.g., Apache Beam, Scio, BigQuery).
Comfort working with data-intensive systems and building infrastructure for machine learning and personalization.
Commitment to software engineering best practices, delivering high-quality, well-tested, and maintainable code.
Curiosity about emerging technologies at the intersection of data processing, backend engineering, and machine learning.
