About the Role

The Visitor Services Associate (VSA) ensures a safe and enjoyable in-park experience for High Line visitors by providing information and enforcing park rules. This role involves daily outdoor work in all weather conditions and requires strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Execute standard operating procedures for opening and closing the park daily.
  • Stay updated on High Line history, visitor information, points of interest, programs, and operational changes.
  • Maintain safe park capacity through visitor counts and implementing an exit-only system as needed.
  • Collaborate with POpS and NYC Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP) for safety.
  • Submit daily reports on tasks, park status, and incidents.
  • Participate in snow and ice removal during the winter season.
  • Monitor park conditions for safety and report concerns.
  • Assist Operations personnel with various tasks.
  • Engage visitors, provide information, educate on park rules, and mitigate conflict.
  • Support the Volunteer team by coordinating public tours and the information station.
  • Assist with event setup, execution, and breakdown.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience in operations at a public venue or outdoor space is ideal.
  • Communicate with professionalism, enthusiasm, and patience.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate dependability, initiative, and personal accountability.
  • Maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Be flexible, good-humored, and ready to address challenges.
  • Assimilate information quickly and accept direction.
  • Proficient in using desktop computers and mobile devices.
  • Proficient use of Google G-Suite.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel 10 or more miles by foot daily.
  • Ability to remain in a fixed post for several hours at a time.
  • Ability to work holidays, weekends, early mornings, and/or evenings.
  • Ability to bend, twist, grasp, crouch, crawl, and/or lift up to 30 lbs.
