About the Role

Pages support library service by ensuring physical access to collections for staff and patrons. This role involves decision-making within defined parameters and collaborating with others to achieve the London Public Library’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Department/Branch staff to ensure Page functions are completed efficiently and on a timely basis.
  • Shelve and retrieve materials accurately, in accordance with established standards, including various AV formats, information file material, periodicals, flyers, and delivery address cards.
  • Retrieve items from various lists including paging list, missing list, and clear Holdshelf.
  • Shelf read assigned areas for correct order.
  • Assist with shifting materials as required.
  • Sort materials for shelving, delivery, and programming.
  • Pack and unpack delivery items including communication materials.
  • In VLS Department, pack and unpack delivery items, label and bag materials for VLS delivery using Route Sheets, place prepared bags in Route Delivery Order, unload and sort items from VLS cages onto trucks, and label trucks.
  • Retrieve materials from library book chutes.
  • Check cases and contents of AV materials.
  • Re-sensitize library materials at the Central Library.
  • Perform shelf checks at the request of staff.
  • Process and deliver newspapers to various departments at Central Library.
  • Gather and sort library materials during survey week.
  • Prepare materials for library service, including applying labels, stamping, and boxing items for book sale and/or recycling.
  • Carry out minor repairs to library materials, including replacing covers.
  • Prepare materials for programs and assist in the presentation of programs.
  • Set up and arrange tables, chairs, and AV equipment for use in programs.
  • Use equipment appropriate to assigned tasks as directed by the Supervisor or other staff (e.g., Papercutter).
  • Tidy the library throughout the day and at closing by picking up materials, straightening shelves, and shutting down non-networked computers.
  • Clean computer monitors, keyboards, and toys.
  • File and collate materials.
  • Deliver and pick up paperwork at Central Library.
  • Provide limited public service, such as general building orientation and shelf location assistance; refer other requests for information to other library staff.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to balance priorities by being flexible and perform a set quantity of work within given time limits.
  • Strong detail orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in an automated environment.
  • Excellent internal customer service skills and ability to listen to customer needs.
  • Page work requires the handling and moving of materials, using book trucks, boxes, and bags.
  • Lifting, pushing, and bending are required in order to perform these tasks.
  • All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Candidates who receive a conditional offer will need to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Police Information Check at their expense.
