About the Role
LAWPRO is seeking a Claims Counsel to manage a diverse portfolio of files related to claims against Ontario lawyers. This role involves assessing, strategizing, and resolving error or omissions proceedings, working with external counsel and insureds.
Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse portfolio of files relating to claims against Ontario lawyers.
- Assist Insureds directly or retain and instruct external legal counsel or other professionals to assess, strategize, repair, defend or resolve error or omissions proceedings.
- Identify and implement file strategy in conjunction with external counsel and the insured.
- Revise strategy where necessary to achieve the desired outcome.
- Take a proactive and creative approach to claims handling.
- Develop expertise in one or more areas of law.
Requirements
- Have at least five years’ experience (additional experience is considered an asset).
- Have experience in any one or more of the following: civil litigation, real estate, wills & estates, corporate/commercial, tax or insurance coverage.
- Be able to identify and implement file strategy in conjunction with external counsel and the insured, and revise strategy where necessary to achieve the desired outcome.
- Take a proactive and creative approach to claims handling.
- Be keen to develop expertise in one or more areas of law.
- Have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work efficiently and meet applicable deadlines.
- Make effective use of technology.
- Be licensed and in good standing as a lawyer in Ontario.

Salary/Compensations
- Target starting salary of $145,000 for someone with 5 years’ relevant experience. Final salary is determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
